What is a network?

In the simplest terms, a network consists of two or more computers that are connected together to share information. All networking, no matter how complex, builds off this simple system.

Networks are generally lumped into two categories, local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). A LAN is primarily defined by geography, and is typically housed in one building or campus. A WAN, on the other hand, is a network that joins one or more LANs together.

A network shares files, data, and even hardware (ie printers, scanners, storage drives, etc.) KA Data Group has experience with networks of every size and with any operating system. We're your affordable, "one stop shop" for your IT needs!

How can I find details about a Domain Name?

If you are wondering about a Domain Name details, such as the expiration date, the owner, the registrar, or other publicly available information, you can find a lot of information at www.statelinedomain.com. When you go to statelinedomain.com just enter the domain name (ie. kadatagroup.com) in the box that says, "Start Your Domain Name Search Here!", and enter the name only (without the .com). In the box after the name, you will select the extension (.com, .net, .org, or whatever) and then click the "Search" button. The next screen will state that the Domain Name is already taken, followed by a link that says, "click here for details". Click on the link and the next screen will explain the privacy statement and display a box on the right showing a "captcha" access code. Simply enter the code in the box labeled "Enter Access Code" and press the "Verify Code" button. the final page will show most of the information that you may b e looking for.

(The access codes prevent automated programs from harvesting potentially private information automatically, thus ensuring only humans are viewing the public information.)

An interesting side note... Often, we see clients that simply launch a browser like Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc. and then enter a desired name (URL) into the address bar. If the return result is a "Page not found" error or similar, they assume that the name is available for registration. This is NOT the case. Often names are registered or reserved without pointing to a hosted web site. Again, the best verification is to check a name with a web site like www.statelinedomain.com. It doesn't cost anything and is a fast and accurate source of information!

How do I resize my pictures?

There are many programs available that will resize pictures for you. Just remember this rule of thumb... Always try to resize to a smaller size and NOT to a larger photo if possible. This is because when you enlarge pictures, they will pixelate as they get bigger. This means that you will get jagged edges around curves and rounded shapes in your picture, causing a "grainy" appearance. This doesn't happen when you make thing smaller, because the eye cannot detect any rough edges as they are shrunk. Most graphic editting programs can resize JPG, BMP, GIF, and some PNG files by default. If you doen't have an editor program and you only need to resize your pictures, we can recommend a program called IrfanView. It's a free program that can be download here. It's very easy to use and needs no instructions as long as you follow the menus. You will need to be registered with our support center (FREE) before you can access our downloadable files.

Where is my data stored?

Is this a trick question? You data may be stored in many places. If your application is based on a single PC, it may be kept there. It may be kept on a server, or it may be kept on a web host (Server on the Internet). The location of data often depends on the type of application and importance of the data. We can say that the data kept on web hosts is kept in the United States and not in a computer in Russia, China, or who knows! All of our computers are stored inside US borders in protected Network Operations Centers.
